Background

In 1980, the dreams and needs of 7 women were fulfilled with the creation of a women’s centre in Bonaventure County, the Femmes en Mouvement Centre in Caplan. The Centre became a safe place for women to meet, support each other and express themselves on different subjects that concerned them.

They then began to take action to improve women’s living conditions and defend their rights.

Consultation is important when discussing the realities of women, and we get involved in different local, regional and national committees.

Today, we sit on several tables and committees to defend and have women’s rights recognised. We continue to be involved in various bodies in order to obtain positive changes for an egalitarian society.

The Centre now works throughout the Bonaventure RCM and welcomes women and people who identify themselves as women from all over the territory and beyond!
